Terraria by Terraria.org is one of the most popular and widely-appreciated 2D sandbox adventure games of the latest years. Unfortunately, Terraria for Mac is still under development, but there are plenty of other addictive 2D action&adventure games available for Mac systems, and the best of them are listed here.

Terraria is the game you’ve been looking for if survival, sandbox, and progression systems are on your checklist. Creating your world and exploring it is a rewarding challenge.

  • Terraria is a 2D platform game that tries to take the spirit of Minecraft and apply it to platform gaming br In Terraria you can do pretty much anything you want to do with your tools and imagination From digging deep underground and finding accessories and money to fighting off a variety of enemies in numerous biomes and gathering wood stone.
  • Terraria Tweaker 2 is a complete revamp of my Terraria-patching tool, Terraria Tweaker. Many modding utilities exist for Terraria, but TT stands out as the most feature-filled patcher available. Just like its predecessor, TT2 is offered free of charge, fully-featured and unrestricted, as always.
  • Dec 21, 2018 Play Terraria on PC and Mac with BlueStacks and expand your dominance in this action-packed game with powerful bosses to defeat and more than 400 enemies to bring down. Don’t go thinking it’s going to be easy just because the ground is bellow and the sky is up above: it might get even harder, as there is no way you can see what’s down.
  • Dig, Fight, Build! The very world is at your fingertips as you fight for survival, fortune, and glory. Delve deep into cavernous expanses, seek out ever-greater foes to test your mettle in combat, or construct your own city - In the World of Terraria, the choice is yours!

Dig, build, and fight

Terraria gives you the sandbox survival aspects you’ve been searching for mixed into a progression system that challenges you.

Terraria is the most popular alternative to Minecraft. It features more content, a progression system and gives you an easy way to play locally-hosted games with friends. Similarly to Minecraft, Terraria has its own mod-loader with a variety of mods to enhance your gameplay or turn it into utter chaos. It’s full of vicious creatures that want to kill you, including the tough bosses you’ll face.

Every world you create is randomized. And the bigger you make the world, the tougher it’ll be to reach its ends and find the dungeon. Once you do, and you defeat Skeletor, the dungeon guardian, you’ll be ready to face the depths of Hell. But first, you have to dig there.

Unleash your inner architect as you design and build skyscrapers, taverns, castles, or a fortress of pure evil lined with traps and gizmos. In Terraria, if you can imagine it, you can create it. There are tons of materials to choose from and a large variety of decorations to place. Since Terraria doesn’t have a creative mode by default, you’ll have to use the mod-launcher to install a creative mode mod.

Where can you run this program?

Terraria is available for mac OSX 10.9.5 , Windows 7, Ubuntu 14.04 and all newer versions of these systems.

Is there a better alternative?

No, while Terraria does show many similarities to Minecraft and many dislike the 2D style, it offers more content and a distinct progression system that won’t leave you wondering what’s next.

Desktop-Only Content: This information applies only to the Desktop version of Terraria.
This article is about the desktop version and a list of updates to the version of Terraria. For all Console updates, see Console Version history. For all Mobile updates, see Mobile Version history. For all 3DS updates, see 3DS Version history. For details on future updates to the desktop version, see Upcoming features.

Version[edit | edit source]

The Desktop version of Terraria refers to the Windows, Mac, and Linux desktop computer versions. These versions are produced entirely by Re-Logic, Terraria's original developer (whereas the current Console version is being worked upon by DR Studios, a third-party developer.) Because of this, updates always come to the Desktop version first.

All three desktop versions are on the same update path and are updated together, sharing a common version number, though each has its own installation package. All can be purchased/downloaded through Steam or GOG.com.

Mac and Linux versions became available starting with version 1.3.0.7 as a beta test package on July 23, 2015, and in 1.3.0.8 as a full release on August 12, 2015. All prior versions were Windows only.
