Keeping your favorite websites opened in a web browser can clutter the app and even slow down its performance. Fluid is a small Mac utility that can help you transform any website into a desktop client without having to deal with complex tools or make too many adjustments.
User friendly design
To create a desktop client, simply run the Fluid app: in the main window you must input the website URL, set up a name, an output location, and provide an icons (you can use the website favicon or your own image file).
Create new apps in no time
After you press the “Create” button placed in the bottom right corner of the Fluid app, all you have to do is wait. When the process is over, Fluid displays a prompt window that lets you know the procedure was successful and includes “Reveal in Finder” and “Launch Now” buttons.
The Fluid apps display the website’s content in a separate, minimalist window, which resembles a web browser. By default, all toolbars are disabled, but you can choose to view the status, bookmarks and address (includes navigation buttons) bars .
Browse to any URL
When you create a new Fluid desktop client, the app generates a white list that includes the domain for the website specified by the user. As a result, when you try to open pages that do not belong to the domain, you will be redirected to your default web browser.
This behavior can be changed from the desktop client Preferences window: navigate to the Whitelist panel and add new entries to the list, or check the “Allow browsing to any URL” option.
Great tool for generating desktop apps for websites
Fluid comes in very handy if you have favorite websites to which you check back frequently, but you do not want to clutter your web browser. Since the app also provides support for using Userscripts or Userstyles, you can easily adjust the client’s appearance and behavior to match your own needs.
