Step 1: Download the Install

Once you download the 2.6GB file to your downloads folder, click on the Office Preview Package to get started. You will be guided through the necessary steps to install this software.

Tip: I had to upgrade my OS X because you can't install Office for Mac with any version of OS X below 10.10. To see my tutorial on how to upgrade your OS X go here.

I also had some internet interruptions on my initial download to my downloads folder and had a hard time opening the package because it did not download the full 2.6GB. Make sure that you fully downloaded the package.

Step 2: Read and Agree to Licensing Agreement

The software license agreement comes in many languages, this one in English. Once you read the agreement, you will have scrolled to the bottom. Click continue to agree.

Step 3: Agree to the License Agreement to Begin Installation

You will then be prompted to agree. Once you do you will select what users of your computer will have access to the software to select the destination for install. You will need 5.62GB of free space to install. Select and click continue.

Good news for Mac users who want to check out pre-release builds of Microsoft Office: Now you can.

Microsoft is opening its Office Insider preview program to Mac users. Launched in November, the program lets Office 'power users' check out new features before they're released to the general public.

'Now, Mac users can also get early access to Office innovations,' Microsoft's Kirk Koenigsbauer wrote in a blog post.

Mac users can join the Office Insider program via the Microsoft Auto Update tool. To access it, just start an Office 2016 for Mac program, then select Check for Updates on the Help menu.

Meanwhile, Microsoft this week outlined a number of new Office features it has on tap, including collaboration improvements and a revamped 'inking experience,' so you can more easily use your finger or an Apple Pencil to work on documents, presentations, spreadsheets, and notes. For starters, Microsoft is adding a new Draw tab to its Office apps that should make it much easier to find the inking tools. You'll also soon be able to easily transform hand-drawn shapes into perfect-looking circles and squares, for easier diagram creation.

The software giant is also bringing its real-time co-authoring feature, first released for Word 2016 on Windows desktops last fall, to PowerPoint mobile and Windows tablets. The feature lets you see what others are typing in real time for easier document collaboration. Plus, the next Preview builds of Word and PowerPoint for Android will include 'basic co-authoring and AutoSave capabilities' already available on Word and PowerPoint for iPhone and iPad.

Koenigsbauer said these new features will be rolling out 'across platforms over time' as part of the regular Office 365 updates.
